Brandon Martinez is a brother of the YMLA from the class of 2026 who will be attending UNT and majoring in psychology. In his 7 years at the YMLA he made many friends who have helped him to get where he is.
Brandon comes from an immigrant family with a strong value on family. His core values are to listen and be respectful, show people respect even when they don’t give it to you, and always speak up when something bad is happening. He describes himself as a quiet and nervous person.
Originally, Brandon only came to this school because his brother went here and his mom didn’t want to drive to 2 different schools everyday. However, he stayed because of the YMLA experience and the friends he made along the way. His friends really helped him along the way. They really helped keep him in check and made sure he was doing the right thing.
Here at the YMLA Brandon has certainly had some favorites in his journey. His favorite teachers are Ms. Smith and Ms. Klein. He says, “They both just give off a good vibe and are very genuine.”. His favorite subject is math. He finds joy in solving problems and strives for understanding in math. His hobbies include soccer and video games.
Brandon is nervous about graduating in May. He feels that it’s all coming down on him all at once. He’ll miss this school for sure. All his teachers. Getting to see his friends everyday. And most of all, the environment of the YMLA. Brandon’s wisdom for the month is to try. Try hard now, and you won’t regret trying harder later. “Do your best on the first try”
