Coach Vaughn, teacher of the month and high school soccer coach, gives his opinion on sports here at the YMLA. He first starts off with the history and how back then there were more students active in sports due to the school´s high population. ¨There isn’t much history since sports here is actually new compared to other schools,¨ says Vaughn. However, the numbers decreased during the Covid-19 outbreak. Vaughn explains, ¨Participation is crucial for sports and players, but also effort and attitude. We also look for determination in our players during practices.¨ He also explains that the main goal for holding sports at YMLA is to “…teach students the games and overall get better in their skills.” During practice, coaches will utilize training time to build athletes´ abilities and practice the skills they are lacking. Even though Covid took a toll on student engagement, the numbers are going back up this year. There are more and more students coming in both high school and especially middle school. With higher numbers, there will be more participation and YMLA sports will set more records.
