Victor Leon Gonzales, for those who don’t know him, is a senior class of 2025, a first-year graduate for his family. You would think he is a quiet student, but he is a very optimistic individual. Wouldn’t you like to learn more about him? I know I do, so let’s explore Victor’s life.
Victor, born in Sacramento, California, moved when he was 3 years old down to Fort Worth for a better opportunity and life. Victor is very optimistic about working on cars and plans to attend TSTC (Texas State Technical College) to pursue a certified mechanic certificate. At YMLA, one certain type of subject and teacher stands out to Victor, Engineering, and Mr. Scott.
He deeply connects with Mr. Scott more than any other teacher. Victor states that his favorite memory with Mr. Scott was when he was stressed over a project and Mr. Scott started to help him and told him not to worry about it. He was deeply saddened when he found out that Mr. Scott was no longer going to teach the upcoming year; he stated that “I saw him as an influence on how to learn engineering.”.
Of Victor’s many favorite activities at YMLA, his favorite is playing soccer. He enjoys this sport because he gets to communicate with underclassmen, connect with them, and show them how to grow. Additionally, a lot of the underclassmen look up to Victor as a mentor on how to improve on their weaknesses. Victors says that during his time in high school he looked up to alumni Isaac Flores, who later turned into his mentor.
Victor says that the YMLA changed him for the better; he says, “It showed me manners and respect,” Victor states. Among his many memories, he remembers the first day he got to the YMLA: “I was frightened and did not know how to get to any of my classes.” As the years came at the YMLA, Victor says he got more comfortable and got to know a lot more people now, which he now calls his brothers since they watched each other grow up at the YMLA. Now as Victor got older, he prefers high school YMLA over middle school YMLA. He says he has more freedom and helps guide middle schoolers, whether it is to a new classroom helping them with homework, and they look up to him as a leader/mentor. Victor also helps them with soccer by playing with them and helping them become better and better every day.
Besides being a mentor/leader in school, he is not just a leader in school; he is also a leader in his job. Victor takes pride and strives to be better every day; he works at Six Flags as a lead. He loves his job and what he does. He also leads every day to make people’s days at Six Flags and so they can have a wonderful experience. Victor plans to stay here until the end of high school, until he transitions to Texas State Technical College to pursue a certificate in a certified mechanic.
